Crack it! is a cipher puzzle game where you decode encrypted words by figuring out the cipher. Start with simple Caesar shifts and work your way up through 13 levels of increasingly complex ciphers — all the way to Playfair grids, Vigenère keys, Affine math, and the Enigma machine.

❓ How does the game work?

Each puzzle gives you an encrypted word. Your job is to figure out which cipher was used and decode it using the slider at the bottom of the screen. Slide the alphabet to find the right shift, then tap each encoded letter to reveal it.

❓ How do I use the slider?

Drag the bottom row of letters left or right to shift the alphabet. When the letter under the arrow decodes to the right character, tap it to fill in that slot. Repeat for each letter in the word.

❓ What are the different cipher types?

The game introduces new ciphers as you progress through the levels:

Caesar — shift every letter by the same amount
ROT13 / Atbash — fixed substitution ciphers
Incremental — the shift increases with each letter
Playfair — pairs of letters encoded using a 5×5 keyword grid
Pipeline — multiple ciphers chained together
Vigenère — a repeating keyword shifts each letter differently
Beaufort — a keyword cipher variant
Affine — a mathematical cipher using multiplication and addition
Enigma — a simulated rotor machine with a reflector

❓ What is the Enigma Tool?

When you reach Level 13, an interactive Enigma tool appears below the slider. Tap a pair in the Rotor, then a pair in the Reflector, then a second pair in the Rotor to trace the signal path and work out the decoded letter.

❓ How do hints work?

Tap Hint at the bottom of the screen to get a step-by-step explanation of the current cipher. The hint explains how the cipher works and what to look for — it won’t give you the answer directly.

❓ What is the Daily CipherWord?

A new crossword-style cipher puzzle is available every day. Each word in the crossword is encoded with a different cipher. Complete it to earn a place on the daily leaderboard and build your streak.

❓ How does the daily streak work?

Complete the Daily CipherWord on consecutive days to build your streak. Miss a day and your streak resets to zero. Your current streak is shown on the solved screen after each daily puzzle.

❓ Do I need an account for the leaderboard?

No account needed — just choose a display name the first time you open the Daily CipherWord. Your name and score are stored in iCloud and appear on the daily leaderboard.

❓ Can I change my display name?

Yes — go to Settings → Display Name to update it at any time.

❓ How do I replay the introduction?

Go to Settings → Help → Show Introduction to replay the animated onboarding at any time.

❓ How do I reset my progress?

Go to Settings → Data → Reset All Progress. This permanently deletes all your solved puzzles and returns you to Level 1. This cannot be undone.
